Maritime Energy, a full-service, locally owned energy company, is celebrating 80 years of serving Knox, Lincoln, Waldo, Hancock and Kennebec counties. The mission of this third-generation family business is to provide friendly, reliable service and quality products at fair prices to assure customer satisfaction and loyalty. Maritime’s fuel products include ultra-low sulfur heating oil, bioheat, K-1, diesel, propane, biodiesel, and gasoline. They serve customers from five fuel offices and their main office in Rockland. They were the first energy company in the midcoast to offer biodiesel and Bioheat in order to promote cleaner alternatives to their customers. Maritime has a professional service team, 24-hour service and GPS systems in their vehicles to most efficiently route them to their customers. They stand behind their tagline, “We’re not comfortable until you are,” in all they do. Maritime operates 13 Maritime Farms convenience stores in midcoast Maine, offering a full deli, soda, chips, cold beer, ATMs, clean restrooms, ample parking and quality gasoline. Maritime’s community involvement is very deep. They have their own non-profit, Energy 4 Life, through which they raise money for the Maine Cancer Foundation to help local families dealing with cancer. Maritime Energy is running a campaign called Pennies for Life, in which 1 cent from every gallon of gasoline sold at their stores goes to support LifeFlight of Maine.

Family Business History

Roland G. Ware, father of chairman John Ware, founded Maritime Oil in 1939 in Rockland. John’s daughter, Susan, is also an owner and company president; her husband, Charlie, joined Maritime in 2011. Susan hopes their two sons will someday want to join the family business, too.
