Family Business History

In 1960, Joe and Mark Malone’s father, Ronald Malone, became a successful real estate sales agent in the Portland market and his wife Helen soon joined him in the business. In 1970 they opened their own agency, Malone Real Estate. Joe and Mark were exposed to the family business at very young ages. As boys, they would help their parents take care of rental properties and learned the business from the ground up, from painting walls to mowing lawns. In 1983, with a degree criminal justice, Joe decided that his true calling was to join the family real estate business. Joe’s analytical proficiencies led him to predict that commercial real estate in Maine would take off and he followed his passion for development and investing. A year later, Joe, now President, renamed the company to better telegraph its direction . . . Malone Commercial Brokers. During this time, Mark was working as a national bank examiner utilizing his financial degree. In 1989 Mark joined the company bringing fiscal expertise and providing financial analysis of properties for sellers and landlords as well as buyers, tenants and clients. TODAY the Malone Commercial Brokers (MCB) team has over 100 years of Maine real estate experience with a staff comprised of 15 professionals.
