Family Business History

Together Tony and Nate DeLois own Uncommon Hospitality, a hotel management and development company based in Portland. The brothers grew up in Yarmouth and pursued different careers for a while (Tony became a chef and Nate worked in real estate) before entering the hotel industry. It was actually their father who encouraged them to join the industry and inspired this small family business. After he purchased The Colonial Inn in 2011 and The Admiral’s Inn in 2015 (both in Ogunquit) he recruited his son Tony to oversee operations and help both properties run more efficiently. Nate joined the team in 2017 when they began to develop The Francis Hotel in Portland and after realizing how well they worked together, Uncommon Hospitality was officially formed. Nowadays Tony takes the role of people manager as the COO and Nate looks after the finances and development of new projects as the CFO. On the horizon is Longfellow Hotel, set to open soon in Portland, and projects in Rangeley and Augusta. Over the years, the hotels in Uncommon’s portfolio have all experienced significant growth in gross sales and net operating income and have become some of the top ranked hotels on TripAdvisor but most importantly, Nate and Tony have committed themselves to fostering an empowering culture where everyone feels trusted, valued and appreciated for their contributions. Their goal is to create a company where every one of their team members feels just as fulfilled as the guests they welcome into the hotels each day.
