"This morning's conference was great!  It was a wide range of participants on the panels and that was a great way to hear a wide view of options and ideas from the panelists!  Kevin Hancock gets my vote for most open, honest and helpful answers to questions. He was outstanding and his thoughts today were very heartfelt and honest.  Take away the layers of "facade" and discuss the truth of what it's like and how you face the issuers."

Leaders in Transition
"Passing the Baton: Letting Go and Preparing Yourself, Your Family, and Your Business for the Next Chapter."

This roundtable-style program is for owners of family-businesses who are in various stages of transition. Peer leaders will share from their own experience, both what has worked and what they have found challenging. Individuals will have the opportunity to discuss concerns and learn from each other.

Following a recent session with Frank O'Shea and Seth Webber of Berry Dunn who presented some ideas and a model on "Valuation Acceleration."  The group found this useful both technically and as a nice stepping off point for discussion.

For the September meeting, we decided to ask a lawyer to join us and open this program to anyone and everyone who would like to join.

Tim Benoit of Perkins Thompson has agreed to come and present to our group and answer some of your questions about transition/succession planning. The list of topics he could cover includes taxes, retirement income, shareholder agreements, life insurance, voting/non-voting stock, buy-sell agreements, and transfers of stock during life and by Will.

Tim will present an overview of planning areas which would hopefully leads to more specific, personal questions from group members.  There will undoubtedly be common concerns and because this is a confidential peer group, the hope is that participants will feel comfortable sharing.

Sharon Dorsett will facilitate the session and contribute her thoughts as she has worked with many family-owned businesses.

Cost: $50 This fee includes a quiet and comfortable meeting room ,snacks and beverages at each meeting, and confidential guided coaching.
