"Anyone involved with a family-owned business would benefit by being a member of the IFOB.  You will meet other family business owners who have had many of the same challenges.  And you will find the right expertise to successfully guide you and the development of your company."
- Adam Lee, Chairman, Lee Auto Malls

  • Maine Family Business Awards

Each year since 2000, the Institute for Family-Owned Business recognizes family-owned, Maine-based businesses through its Maine Family Business Awards on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Tickets are being sold for the hybrid event with in-person, following the current CDC guidelines, and remote options.

The Maine Family Business Awards gala attracts family businesses large and small for a celebration that pays more than just recognition; it serves as a vehicle for networking and opening up all shades of possibilities for families seeking to grow their business.  Click here to register to attend!

Now in its 21st year of recognizing family businesses with the awards, we present them in partnership with MEMIC.  Since its inception, 97 businesses have been recognized for various categories of excellence. One comment, may best capture the essence of the awards, and in many ways describe the Institute: "While applying for the awards, we discovered a lot about ourselves…and that alone made the effort worthwhile."

The awards celebrate the accomplishments of small and large businesses that exemplify the following criteria:

  • Business success
  • Positive business and family linkages
  • Contributions to the community and industry
  • Family participation
  • Work environment
  • Communication
  • Innovative business practices or strategies

Awards are presented in seven categories:

  1. Renys Large Business Award (25 or more full time, year-round employees)
  2. Chalmers Insurance Group Customer Service Award
  3. Holiday Inn By The Bay First Generation Award
  4. People's United Bank Innovation & Technology Award
  5. Shep Lee Community Service Award
  6. Maddy Corson Small Business Award (fewer than 25 full time, year-round employees)
  7. Cumberland Crossing by OceanView Environmental Leadership Award
We will also award an active community member with the BerryDunn Lifetime Achievement Award. The recipient is voted on by the IFOB board, announced prior to the awards night and celebrated at the gala.
